James Video…Week 5 Posted by Lee Cadden on 15 May 2012, 1:44 pm
As part of our current sermon series through the book of James, we are combining Sunday morning message videos with weekly, 10 minute supplemental videos that cover the parts of James’ letter that we could not get to in our Sunday morning teachings. Here is a video we shot last week (well Brian shot it, i just got to talk to the camera) on the beginning of James 5: You can check out the rest of the videos hereSource: "staff blogs" via Scott in Google Reader | Lee Cadden
thoughts on Mother's Day Posted by Courtney Cloud on 14 May 2012, 1:15 pm
When I read this today I had to post it. I wish I had these words but this woman said exactly what I've thought...not even just for me at times. I know so many women who deal with so many hurtful emotions and feelings on days like Mother's Day. I know so many mothers who have their children here with them that feel the same way. Thank you to Amy Young from The Messy Middle for sharing your words. Dear Pastor,Tone can be tricky in writing. Picture me popping my head in your office door, smiling and asking if we could talk for five minutes. I’m sipping on my diet coke as I sit down. You know that I’m not one to shy away from speaking my mind, part of the reason you love me (mostly!), so I’m guessing that internally you brace yourself. Baptism Celebration at Cornerstone Posted by Lee Cadden on 11 May 2012, 12:55 pm
this past Sunday was an amazing day in the life of Cornerstone Church…one I don’t think I’ll soon forget. In wanting to celebrate new life in Christ with both sites, Lee Scott and Hamilton Road, we decided to do a church-wide Baptism Celebration in the Hamilton Road parking lot. We have always said that Baptism in Christ is most certainly a celebration, but there’s something about being inside of a church building on Sunday morning that keeps people from jumping up and down in their seats as they witness the old man being buried under the water and the new man being raised out of the water. so in an effort to shake things up a bit, and to repurpose how we do adult Baptism at Cornerstone with multiple sites, we decided to turn Baptis. Apart from God, Man has No Other Purpose Posted by Lee Cadden on 5 May 2012, 5:44 pm
Biblically defined, mans’ purpose is that we might worship God and enjoy Him forever. Apart from that, man has no other purpose; and short of that, man wanders in spiritual disorientation taking him further from finding his created purpose. A.W. Tozer – The Purpose of Man Purpose Lost… and Regained According to Tozer, and arguably the Bible, the greatest tragedy of the Fall of Man in the Garden of Eden has not been the spread of disease, wars, genocide, greed, selfishness or even death itself…those things are merely short term consequences. The heart of the tragedy is that man lost his purpose in life – to worship God and enjoy him – and in turn lost his identity – an image bearer of the King of Kings created for intimate fell. I Have Called You by Name, You Are Mine Posted by Lee Cadden on 4 May 2012, 4:51 am
God Calls with my first class in seminary behind me, much thought, conversation, reading, and writing has gone into the Sovereignty of God (Paul calls God the “only Sovereign” – see 1 Timothy 6.15) and his choosing a people for himself, beginning with Abraham, then the nation of Israel, until today with his church…which has in turn led to much wrestling with how I view salvation and ultimately who is responsible for securing my salvation. so, I turn the question to you when it comes to the call of God: what does it mean for God to call a person? and to follow that question, Can someone not follow when and if God calls him by name? Think of the fishermen and Jesus, dropping their nets “immediately” to follow him (Mark 1.18). Th. […]Source: "staff blogs" via Scott in Google Reader | Lee Cadden

“Pride gets no pleasure out of having something, only out of having more of it that the next man. We say people are proud of being rich, or clever, or good-looking, but they are not. They are proud of being richer, or cleverer, or better-looking than others.” - C.S. Lewis, Mere ChristianitySource: "staff blogs" via Scott in Google Reader | (author unknown)
Busy? Are You Really? Posted by Lee Cadden on 30 Apr 2012, 8:50 pm
I had a friend ask me the other day, how are you doing? without thinking i responded, busy…really busy…but good. he then proceeded to ask me a question that i had never thought of: Are you really that busy? are you at the full capacity God has created you with? Yes, its true that we all lead busy lives. But aren’t we suppose to finish the race, perhaps even the day, having left everything on the field, so to speak? ok ok…yes…life is a marathon not a sprint and if you burn-out you’re no good to anyone. i agree with all of that; however, I had never thought of the question the way my friend posed it and the truth is, i’m really not that busy all the time. God gives each of us unique capacities of what we can handle, and its how. […]Source: "staff blogs" via Scott in Google Reader | Lee Cadden
Starting a new business is definitely not for the "weak of Posted by Courtney Cloud on 27 Apr 2012, 6:14 pm
Starting a new business is definitely not for the "weak of heart". The 14-16 hour days have been at times a little challenging. Here's a picture of my living room from last night.I'm tired and exhausted but love all of it!I've wanted to do this for years. I'm so thankful that B is such a good sport! I couldn't do it without him and his encouragement. Looking forward to a couple of not so crazy weeks coming up soon (unless we get swamped with custom orders - which would be awesome!). Lots to blog about, pictures to post...Happy Friday Blog Friends!Source: "staff blogs" via Scott in Google Reader | Courtney Cloud
This is The End of the Matter Posted by Lee Cadden on 27 Apr 2012, 4:56 pm
This is the end of the matter; all hath been heard: fear God, and keep his commandments; for this is the whole duty of man. For God will bring every work into judgment, with every hidden thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil. Ecclesiastes 12.13-14 We wrapped up our study of Ecclesiastes this last week with chapter 12 (here is the podcast from Kristen Hines’ teaching). Pretty straightforwardly, Solomon concludes his discourse with these simple words: “all is spoken, the end of the matter? it is to fear God and keep his commandments.” quick, to the point, which is unlike much of Ecclesiastes, Solomon strikes at the heart of the believer’s life: if you want to be holy, you must keep his commandments. And you only keep his c. […]Source: "staff blogs" via Scott in Google Reader | Lee Cadden
defending your honor // killing pride Posted by bslash on 26 Apr 2012, 6:08 pm
Lately, I’ve been hearing myself explain to more and more people that I often leave a conversation exhausted because the entire time I have been “defending my honor.” The topic seems to be irrelevant, I just want to be right. Being wrong is frustrating and it puts another little chink in my armor that clearly attests to the fact that I am indeed not the smartest, or most clever person in the world. It is pride that has welled up and says, “keep up the fight, if you do, the other party will give up any moment and you’ll leave the victor, having defended your honor, demonstrating your prowess and great skill, many people will turn to you and trust you because you’ve taken the day.” Turns out I’m just making people sad and frus. Life is Full of Risks Posted by Lee Cadden on 16 Apr 2012, 3:04 am
Life is full of risks. Faith calls you to action anyway. Not easy words, but words that scripture leads us to time and time again. Throughout the Bible, most of the moments that God calls his people to action are loaded with question marks, uncertainty, and absolute risk with little to no guarantee of success [think Jonathan and his armor bearer or David and Goliath]. Yet God comes through time and time again, proving his faithfulness. This is our God. One who absolutely loves making foolish the wisdom of the world and baffling people time and time again with His sovereignty, power and love. Teaching through Ecclesiastes Last Monday our College students worked their way through the 11th section in our study through Ecclesiastes (podcast he. It's not you...it's me. Posted by Courtney Cloud on 13 Apr 2012, 4:57 pm
I promised I haven't given up on my blog. It's been one of the many things that I've neglected over the past couple of months. My life is going 90 miles an hour right now. It's definitely not a bad thing but I feel like months are flying by. I cannot believe it's the middle of April. I'm going to look up and it will be time to decorate for Christmas again.I love watching my little business grow. Things From a Cloud is doing well. TFAC is definitely the only "baby" we are focusing on right now. I have dreamed of this for a long time. It's so exciting getting to do something that is mine. However, anyone who thinks having your own business is easy is very mistaken. This is the hardest work/job I've ever done. B & I are still in the very early. Greg Mortenson :: Things Are Not Always What they Seem Posted by Lee Cadden on 10 Apr 2012, 3:44 am
When I first heard the news that Greg Mortenson, author of Three Cups of Tea and Stones into Schools, international philanthropist, and experienced Himalayan mountaineer, was running money through his non-profit’s name for personal expenses and free travel, i was caught off guard. Then I read the news that the non-prof, Central Asia Institute, was “buying” Mortensons’s books for a grand total of $4 million when that money should have been building schools, and things got worse. mind you I have only read Three Cups of Tea and occasionally read a blog update from CAI, but every time i heard of the work they were doing in the most remote mountains in the world, my heart leapt with joy. Greg started out building one school for a villa. […]Source: "staff blogs" via Scott in Google Reader | Lee Cadden
Why do You Seek the Living Among the Dead? Posted by Lee Cadden on 8 Apr 2012, 1:35 pm
This morning we rose, we worshiped the King of Glory, the Risen Christ, and as the sun broke the tree line and shone on us, the Son continued to shine his radiance on us. Foolishness to the world. Extravagant and Awesome for those who believe! Sunrise Service, Cornerstone Church – photo by Scott Fillmer On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men s.
