Small Group Leadership FAQs

Are there any requirements to lead a Cornerstone Small Group? Yes, you must be a member of Cornerstone. You will then need to fill out our Small Group Leadership Application . Once we have processed your application, you will watch a series of 4 training videos pertaining to Small Group Culture. You will meet with a specific coach to discuss the material, and then sign a Small Group Leadership Covenant.

What type of material/curriculum can we use? We strongly encourage our groups to use the Bible as their material for their small group meeting. We also maintain a list of recommended resources that is available by emailing smallgroups@cornerstonebuzz.org. Please note that all material/curriculum not on this list, must be reviewed by the Small Group Coordinator before use in group.

How often should my small group meet? The more often a group meets, the more likely group members will experience life transformation and progress in the small group values.  For this reason, we encourage groups to meet on a weekly basis.

Where should my small group meet? We encourage you to be creative in where to host your small group. Most often, groups meet in the homes of the leader and members. Groups have also met in other places in the community, such as restaurants and parks.

Can my small group meet in the Cornerstone building? To stay true to our value of being outward focused, we are intentional in small groups meeting outside the walls of the Cornerstone building. The only groups that meet in the building are recovery and support groups where confidentiality and anonymity are critical, such as Life’s Healing Choices and Wounded Heart.

Is Childcare available? Cornerstone offers a childcare reimbursement for parents who otherwise could not participate in a small group.  Please visit the following pages for information about this system, as well as to print off the form used for reimbursements.

What kind of support is available for me as a small group leader? We are excited that this year we will be initiating a Coaching Team to support our small group leaders. A coach will meet with you initially to process the vision and values of small groups at Cornerstone. Then, on an ongoing basis, your coach will stay connected with you to encourage you in your own journey with Christ, as well as to support you in your development as a small group leader.
