Mission Statement Series

Any organization that is going somewhere, being productive and accomplishing their purpose usually has a statement that they use to describe their primary goal. It’s called a “mission statement”. This concise phrase or paragraph is repeated over and over to help everyone involved remember why the organization exists. It shows up at meetings, in printed material, on t-shirts and websites. The statement is used as a guide to help do the one thing that is so difficult for a large entity – FOCUS!

The largest organization with the highest purpose in the world, of course, is the church. While it is so much more than a secular business or corporation it still has a mission and a purpose for existence. Jesus gave the global church a mission when he said “go, and make disciples of all nations…” (Matthew 28:18-20). It was a mandate to go to a world of lost people, share the Gospel, bring salvation and help them nurture their faith so they may find a place to serve and bring others to Christ. Guess what?? The mission has never changed! We are still called to that purpose. Each local body of believers expresses the mission in the way that they are uniquely called, but they are still responsible for the original mandate.

Here at Cornerstone we have been uniquely called to the task of “leading people to know and serve Jesus”. This is our mission statement. It is what guides us and helps us know why we do what we do, how we are to carry out our ministry and who we are trying to reach. It helps us stay focused when, at times, we may be tempted to drift into dangerous waters of complacency, forgetting the non-believers in our community, or trying to make everybody happy. We have found this to be a worthy statement as it has helped bring many people to Christ.

Once a year we do a message series wrapped around our church’s mission. So, it’s that time once again to be reminded of our purpose and rally around the cause that Christ has given Cornerstone. Come join us for this series entitled “Leading people to know and serve Jesus”.
