Volunteering At Cornerstone Church
Every single week, our volunteers give their time and skills to serve others. Greeting, teaching, preparing food, answering phones… there is a fit for you somewhere.
Cornerstone Kids
Our Kidztown team exists to unveil God’s love to the children and families who attend Cornerstone Church. Volunteers serve on Sunday morning in our Kidzown area greeting, teaching, playing music and performing drama for our five year olds through fourth graders. For more information about Kidztown just send an email to Jill Harris, Director of Early Childhood Ministries at jill@cornerstonebuzz.org.
In our Preteen Ministry, leaders are needed to guide 5th and 6th grade students as they connect with leaders and peers by playing games and hanging out on Sunday mornings. Then we divide boys and girls and move into small groups. Here leaders will help preteens connect the Bible to their everyday lives. Contact Jill Harris, jill@cornerstonebuzz.org, for more information.
If you have a heart for young children, enjoy holding and rocking babies, building blocks with toddlers, coloring with preschoolers and teaching little ones about Jesus, then Seaside is the place for you. Seaside is the area of our building designed for infants, toddlers and their families. Using an ocean theme with a real dock, our Seaside volunteers provide love and care for the littlest of our church family. Contact Jill Harris, Director of Early Childhood Ministries, at jill@cornerstonebuzz.org for more information on volunteering in Seaside.
Cornerstone Youth
One of the greatest investments you can make in this world is into the life of a young person. The years of Junior High and High School are some of the most impressionable times in life. While students are growing toward independence, they also long for adults to offer guidance and direction in their lives. Whether it’s leading a small group of students, offering a support role with Wednesday night’s Engage or helping with other special events, we hope you will consider making a kingdom investment in tomorrow’s generation. To learn more about how to connect to this ministry or complete a youth volunteer application, contact Allen Whittaker, Youth Pastor, at allen@cornerstonebuzz.org.
Cornerstone College
College is a time of unknowns, new adventures and figuring out just what in the world a student wants to do with his or her life. At Cornerstone, there are a multitude of ways that you can be involved in College Ministry, both here at the church and out on our local campuses, from Sunday lunches to coffee on the concourse to student adoption. If you and/or your family want to invest in the lives of students, contact Lee Cadden, Director of College Ministries, at lee@cornerstonebuzz.org.
Guest Services
Guest Services is designed to remove any barriers for our guests as they worship on Sunday mornings. We want our guests to feel comfortable and be able to focus on Christ. If you are interested in serving on or would like more information about a team, please contact the team leader.
- Greeter Team- Do you have a firm handshake and know how to smile? The Greeter Team might be the place for you. This team greets our guests, regular attenders and members as they arrive on Sunday morning. Team Leader: Julia Farrow - julia@cornerstonebuzz.org.
- Recovery Team- This team includes what most people know as ushers but is so much more. Team members arrive and do a walk-through of the worship area checking to make sure everything is in it’s place and ready to go. After each service, they pick up any trash, tidy the restrooms and make sure the building is ready to go for the next service. Team Leader: Steffani Bryant – steffani@cornerstonebuzz.org.
- Parking Lot Team- The Parking Team’s main objective is to ensure safety and order while greeting and directing cars and pedestrians in the Cornerstone parking lot. This is the first experience many people will have at Cornerstone, and we want it to be great. Team Leader: Andy Vaughn – andy@cornerstonebuzz.org.
- KidzTown Check-In Team- Help our kids get checked in to their classrooms, complete with security tag, so their parents know they are safe and in the right place. Team Leader: Merit Sims – merit@cornerstonebuzz.org.
- Information Desk/Bookstore Team- Meet anyone coming to Cornerstone with a friendly face and provide whatever information needed. Collect money for any book purchases. It may also be necessary at times to take money for any special offer such as T-shirts, promotions, etc. Team Leader: Julia Farrow – julia@cornerstonebuzz.org.
- Breakfast Crew- A great team for early risers or if you like to work behind the scenes! This team comes in to bake biscuits, grill sausage and bake cookies for each of our services on Sunday. They are finished and have everything cleaned up in time to have a cup of coffee and fellowship with other volunteers before the first service at 8:30 am. Team Leader: Ken Atkins – ken@cornerstonebuzz.org.
- Cafe Team- One of the first stops people make when they walk through the doors of Cornerstone is our Cafe! Our Cafe Team keeps the coffee and juice ready and the Coffee Station cleaned and stocked. Some set-up and break down may be involved. If you are a “people person”, this is a great spot to serve in. Team Leader: Emile Ewing – emile@cornerstonebuzz.org.
- Food Server Team- Our food servers are responsible to set up food on the tables in the Worship area before each service, to serve the biscuits and then to remove our serving pieces to the kitchen and wash them. All food servers start placing food in the Worship area 15 minutes prior to each service. Team Leader: Emile Ewing – emile@cornerstonebuzz.org.
- Cornerstone Kids Security- The main responsibility of our children’s security team is to keep our kids safe while they learn about Jesus each week. In the same way, we want our parents to be able to also learn about Jesus in worship and know their children are safe. Security team responsibilities include greeting families, assist in moving children as a group and keeping our kids safe while abiding by our Safe Sanctuaries policy. Team Leader: Billy Browdy – billy@cornerstonebuzz.org.
Other Weekly Opportunities
There are many other volunteer teams who serve throughout the week. Here are a few of them.
Cornerstone Cares- This is a ministry to individuals and families of Cornerstone who experience long term illnesses or loss of a loved one. Persons involved in this ministry are assigned to a team and provide support through meals, encouragement and prayers. Individuals who thrive in this ministry are mercy-gifted, compassionate, caring and comfortable entering into the hurts of others. To find out more about how you can be a part of this ministry, contact Lynn Blount, Cornerstone Cares Team Coordinator at lynn@cornerstonebuzz.org.
Photography Team- A desire to glorify God through photos and technology is a must for our volunteer photographers. Above average photographic skill is required. Volunteers may expect to serve one to three hours each month. Team Leader: Julia Farrow – julia@cornerstonebuzz.org.
Production Team- The production teams at Cornerstone are just a few of the many volunteers that work behind the scenes each week to create environments where people feel free to worship, from creating short films to operating sound and lights. Our desire is to continue offering excellent environments where people can worship without distraction. Team Leader: Brian Johnson – brian@cornerstonebuzz.org.
Week Day Church Reception- We rely on a team of volunteers to assist with reception at the church throughout the work week during church office hours. Volunteers answer the phone, route calls appropriately, greet visitors, give church information and assist with other office tasks as needed. Shifts are typically in two or four hour increments. This is an ideal spot for someone with children in school, a retiree or a college student. Volunteers in this area should be comfortable interacting with familiar and unfamiliar faces, have a warm personality and be reliable. Team Leader: Lynn Blount – lynn@cornerstonebuzz.org.
