101 is for anyone who is interested in joining Cornerstone or just wants to see who we are, what we believe and where we are going as a church. There will be great fellowship and a delicious dinner while Rusty, Josh and the leadership team share about Cornerstone’s mission and vision. Second Saturday is for anyone and everyone. This is an opportunity for members and attenders of Cornerstone to give back to our community, to make an impact on someone’s life and to live obediently in the life of service that Jesus has called us to. While each Second Saturday may be different, we are currently partnered with the Big House in Opelika, an organization that supports foster families in Lee County. Cornerstone has provided workers to the Big House as they have been working to restore a building that will better serve the families this ministry is reaching out to.

We do not provide childcare, but we offer something for people of all skill levels. So come serve as a family and as a part of the larger family that makes up Cornerstone Church. No registration is necessary.

Cornerstone Connect is for all members and attenders at Cornerstone. Here you will learn about discipleship and small groups, volunteering on Sunday mornings and throughout the week, and how to engage in mission. You can also connect with key leaders in each of these areas to discover how you can get plugged in. We become what we are committed to. By the end of the class, you will understand what next steps you can take to be more committed to Christ and Cornerstone. Childcare is available by reservation. However, we encourage families to attend with older children. Snacks and drinks will be available. The deadline for childcare reservations is Thursday, September 16.

Married couples – are you wanting your marriage to thrive? Do you want more than to just survive or “get by”? Then come and experience Cornerstone’s Thrive Marriage Conference led by Mike and Sue Darnell. Mike brings over 25 years experience as a Licensed Marriage and Family Counselor in Montgomery, AL, along with 41 years of marriage with Sue. This will not be just another seminar with an overload of information but an opportunity for couples to work together in developing a framework for a thriving marriage. Couples will walk away with a plan and practical next steps in strengthening the foundations of their relationship. So make plans now to be a part of this experience with us. (Engaged couples are also welcome.)

Dinner will be served at 6 pm on Friday evening. Pizza will be provided for those kids in childcare. A light breakfast will be provided for all on Saturday morning. Cost is $40 per couple. REGISTER FOR THRIVE MARRIAGE CONFERENCE

The Story (September 6, 13, 20, 27)

Each of our lives is a story. There is a cast of characters, a plot, twists and turns…and often we are the central figure in our story. But our story is not the whole story – just a simple small part of a bigger story that began long before we were born. It’s the story of God’s activity in the world to rescue humanity from sin as revealed in the Bible. But it’s more personal than that – it’s God’s activity in the world to rescue you from your sin. The Bible can often seem intimidating and overwhelming for those trying to make sense of it: “There are so many books, stories and strange things about it. Where do I even begin?” So to make this journey a bit easier, this class will lead you through the story of the entire Bible to discover the over-arching theme – redemption. By the end of this class, participants will have a larger understanding of the Bible as a whole and know their place and purpose in the continually unfolding story of God’s redemption of the world.

Theology 101 (October 11, 18, 25 and November 1)

At some level, all persons are theologians. Whether we know it or not, each of us have developed some sort of basic framework to make sense of God and the world around us. Theology – being the exploration of God and his relationship to humanity – has often been associated with “far out there” abstract concepts. But in reality, it is a very basic and practical part of each one of us with significant implications on decisions we make and how we live. In these four weeks, we will examine and put into practice some important tools to build a Biblical theology and fulfill our intellectual calling as Christians. At the end of this time together, we will have developed a basic framework to test ideas about God and the world as we seek to live in His truth.
